The fairy tale "Cinderella" is read with equal interest all over the world. The story of Cinderella is not unique; other authors have repeatedly retold this popular folk tale. However, Charles Perrault's version became the most famous due to its unique details, the refined and gentle image of Cinderella, and the absence of motives of cruelty and retribution.
A fairy godmother watches over the poor girl who suffers from the nagging of her quarrelsome stepsisters and stepmother. To get Cinderella to the ball, she transforms a pumpkin into a carriage, rats and mice into horses and footmen, and gives her glass slippers and a dress of indescribable beauty. (Charles invented all these fantastic elements himself; they were not present in the folk interpretation of the tale). The gentle and beautiful Cinderella falls in love with the handsome prince, and a lost glass slipper helps him find his chosen one.
All little girls who are read "Cinderella" dream of being like the main character. The moral of the fairy tale is that kindness, modesty, responsiveness, forgiveness, and diligence are the qualities a girl should possess to eventually marry a prince. The tale teaches to forgive loved ones for their misdeeds, rather than retaliating, and not to complain unnecessarily.
The true embellishment of the book is Vladimir Konashevich's exquisite illustrations, elegant, poetic, amazingly detailed, conveying the truly French flavor of the fairy tale.
Recommended for preschool children for reading and viewing.
