Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak (1887-1964) was a poet, playwright, and translator. He wrote numerous works that are deservedly considered classics and trusted by grandparents, mothers and fathers. The book "I Am the Merry Cipollino... Songs" includes well-known English songs ("The House That Jack Built," "Humpty Dumpty," "The Boat," and others), Czech songs ("Frogs Talking," "What the Cats Talked About," "Grandma's Favorites," and others) translated by S. Marshak, as well as "Cipollino's Song" and "Song of Signor Tomato," written by S. Marshak for the Central Children's Theater, where a play based on Gianni Rodari's Italian fairy tale "The Adventures of Cipollino" was performed.
