Pyotr Ivanovich Bagin is equally adept with both pencil and words. He wrote and illustrated a beautiful and useful picture book—a true encyclopedia of animals of the Central Russian forest. The double-page illustrations, dedicated to each month of the year, are not just expressive and picturesque; they are also absolutely accurate from a zoological point of view. Around the young reader roam bears, deer, elk, squirrels, foxes, young hares, and lynxes. Birds build nests, and animals dig burrows. Chicks hatch from eggs, tadpoles from spawn, and young animals nurse from their mothers. This is a real walk through the forest, during which the child observes, listens, and notices the slightest movement... And they also learn that forest inhabitants live a difficult life and act according to their natural instincts. The book is recommended for adults to read to children, as well as for shared viewing of the unique illustrations, which were preceded by the author's meticulous research.
