Quite the opposite: you and the young heroes of the tales, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, are in for all thirty-three misfortunes. On one unremarkable but very tragic day, the children learn that their parents have died. There are plenty of people willing to take in the orphans, but the most terrible among them all is the cynical villain Count Olaf. He pursues the Baudelaires wherever they go. Troubles rain down on the children like confetti from a popper. And only their strength of spirit and mutual help allow Violet, Klaus, and Sunny to get out of trouble time and time again. The gloomy humorous stories about the adventures of the Baudelaire children became so popular worldwide that they formed the basis of the film "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," starring Jim Carrey, Jude Law, and Meryl Streep. More recently, Netflix also produced a series of the same name. The main roles in it were played by Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes.
The first volume, "The Woes Begin," includes four novellas from the series: "The Bad Beginning," "The Reptile Room," "The Wide Window," and "The Miserable Mill."
