We're building a new house!

"Building a New House!" is the sixth book in the popular "Story in Pictures" wimmelbuch series by German artists Doro Göbel and Peter Knorr. It tells the story of how, one day, in an unattractive part of the city, on the site of an old garage and a dilapidated supermarket building, the construction of a new residential building begins. Workers pour the foundation, gradually erect walls, assemble scaffolding, lay the roof, and carry out finishing work. The construction process and the machinery involved are captured with full authenticity. One can observe how a crane is installed, how the foundation is poured using a concrete mixer, how an excavator digs trenches for cables and sewage, how scaffolding is assembled, how the roof is laid, and much, much more. The construction site is not without its incidents: for example, the excavator operator Erwin finds a treasure chest with gold coins in the ground, after which a whole team of archaeologists arrives at the construction site. And at the topping-out ceremony, traditionally held by builders when they reach the highest point of the building, the sausages get burned, and firefighters, mistakenly thinking the smoke plumes are a fire, urgently arrive at the construction site with their entire team. And finally, exactly one year later, the beautiful new house is ready! Surprisingly, its appearance transforms the entire neighborhood. Cozy cafes and useful shops open around it, playgrounds and flowerbeds appear—to the delight of both new residents and long-time inhabitants. The "Story in Pictures" wimmelbuch series is like a silent movie. By looking at the wordless book, children learn to notice details, trace logical connections between events, and independently create a story from the pictures. The book contains so many plotlines that it's impossible to follow them all at once. They intertwine, intersect, and happen simultaneously, just like in a real movie—and just like in real life!
