Part of the school reading program for grades 10–11. Ivan Alekseevich Bunin (1870–1953) was a Russian writer, poet, and translator, and winner of the 1933 Nobel Prize in Literature. "Cursed Days" is the diary of a Russian intellectual deeply affected by the events of 1917 and the subsequent Civil War. Bunin perceived the revolution as a personal tragedy, observing with horror the rampant lawlessness, cruelty, and famine. Bunin's diary entries, written in Moscow and Odessa between 1918 and 1920, are permeated with pain and disappointment at the events. The author yearns for a lost Russia; he does not strive for objectivity, but instead recounts his feelings, which makes "Cursed Days" truly valuable. The collection also includes articles and memoirs by I. A. Bunin.
