Vasily Pavlovich Aksyonov is a recognized classic and iconic figure in Russian literature. His works are well known not only in Russia but also abroad. Aksyonov achieved success in the 1960s—responding with brilliant prose to the most complex and pressing themes, he remained the voice of his generation for decades. Among Aksyonov's beloved works is the trilogy "Moscow Saga," written in the early 1990s and adapted for the screen in 2004. The trilogy consists of the novels "Generation of Winter," "War and Prison," and "Prison and Peace." They span arguably the most horrific period in Russian history of the 20th century—from the early 1920s to the early 1950s. On a warm evening in 1925, the entire Gradov family gathered at the professor's dacha in Serebryany Bor. This is how the story of three generations of this family begins, which would go through all the circles of hell of the Stalin era: the fight against Trotskyism, collectivization, the camps, the war with fascism, and the post-war repressions.
