The publishing house "Machaon" is releasing a new series of books by Astrid Lindgren. The text of the book remains classic – it is the translation by Lilianna Lungina, which made Lindgren's stories famous and very popular in Russia.
Children will surely love the mischievous and vibrant illustrations by Ukrainian artist Arsen Janikyan. "Karlsson-on-the-Roof", "The Town in the Snuffbox", "The Golden Key, or The Adventures of Buratino", "The Adventures of Cipollino" have gained new life thanks to Arsen Janikyan's witty and colorful illustrations.
In a small Swedish town, an unusual girl named Pippi Longstocking appears. She lives alone in Villa Villekulla without parents (her mother is an angel in heaven, her father is a king of a Black tribe), but she manages everything herself: bakes gingerbread, counts money, puts her horse to sleep, which lives with her on the veranda. Pippi has incredible strength – she lifts a horse with one hand, defeats a circus strongman, throws policemen into a tree. But that's not the main thing. Pippi is the funniest, most generous, most inventive person in the world. She is friends with the neighbor's children, Tommy and Annika; together they travel through attics, play kangaroos, don't go to school (until they decide it's time) and turn ordinary life into one big adventure. At the same time, Pippi remains incredibly kind: she gives sweets to children, protects the weak, and holds no grudges against those who offend her.
The book teaches independence, the ability to stand up for oneself, generosity, and that being different is not a flaw, but a true treasure. Pippi is a hymn to childlike spontaneity, imagination, and the belief that even a child can overcome any difficulties if they have a sense of humor and a kind heart.
Suitable for children aged 5 to 10 who love funny, dynamic stories about the adventures of unusual heroes. An ideal choice for family read-alouds, as well as for independent reading by elementary school students. The book is included in lists for extracurricular reading. In spirit and atmosphere, this collection is close to the works of Tove Jansson, Nikolai Nosov, and Roald Dahl, where the fantastic and the ordinary intertwine with good humor and profound humanity.
Astrid Lindgren is a world-renowned Swedish writer, author of immortal works such as "Karlsson-on-the-Roof", "Pippi Longstocking", "Emil in Lönneberga" and many others.
