A deck for three players contains 60 cards with numbers from 1 to 60.
* 5 cards are dealt to each player.
* Everyone plays cards into their own pile.
* The first player places one card in their pile. This sets the rules for placing cards in the next pile—the number and the greater-than or less-than sign. For example, as in the picture, "greater than 47."
* The next player places any card that is greater than 47, let's say they place 52, and can attach any number of "linked" cards with the same first or last digit underneath it. 52 can be linked to 57, 51, 57, etc., or linked to 62, 12, 32, etc. It is impossible to link 57 and 12 to 52, or all cards are equal in the first digit, or all cards are equal in the second digit. Linked cards are placed in the same player's pile underneath the top card, which must meet the rules and will determine the rules for the next player. The player then draws a hand of 5 cards.
* If the card fails to be placed, the owner of the rule card draws one card from the deck into their hand. The unlucky player flips over the top card of their deck, revealing it won't be a rule card and may place one card on the bottom of the deck and draw one card from the top. The next player will be guided by the last rule card revealed in the circle. I really screwed everyone over when I played the "02, less" card.
* If everyone in the circle couldn't lay down cards and the turn went to the owner of that card (that's when I discovered that I also didn't have a card in my hand that satisfied the "02, less" rule, we also looked into the rules), then the card is turned over and the player can put any card from his hand into the pile (or a pile of "connected" cards).
The numbers are big. The pictures on each card are unique. The cats are funny.
To avoid confusion between the numbers, each digit has a color used for the background. The bottom of the background is drawn in the color of the tens digit, and the top of the background is drawn in the color of the units digit. You won't get confused. So, the rule for linking cards is: "lay out all cards with the same bottom or all cards with the same top."
I laid out a combo of 4 linked cards - put the bottom one aside - we will count the bonus +4 points to it.
I played a 5-card combo and won immediately and without a doubt!
We play until the deck is empty and one player has no cards left in their hand. The remaining players take one turn each, and that's it. We count how many cards each player has in their pile and add up bonus points. Whoever has the most points wins.
The concepts of more-less and "same number" are worked out with great success and great passion.
