Cat from the bakery

The English poet and writer Joan Aiken (1924–2004) wrote fairy tales about things that were simple yet magical.

.A cat rose on yeast, which, along with warm milk, was used to treat his cold. An apple pie, vaguely reminiscent of the well-known "teremok" (Russian folk tale structure), took flight. The King of the Grasshoppers plopped into the oatmeal of the beautiful but poor girl Bridget and richly rewarded her for saving him from the porridge. The North Wind, in gratitude for being freed from the branches of a thorny tree, gave little Laura a magical necklace of raindrops. Little Daisy, forced to play in the dirty construction sites where her father works, suddenly finds herself on the Moon, walking among moon daisies and riding moon horses.
.Whatever happens in Joan Aiken's fairy tales, a happy life awaits all good people in the end. And, as is well known, you can never have too many good cats.
