The house moved

Agniya Barto told children about a real Moscow event. And the famous cartoonist Konstantin Rotov illustrated every line of her poem with a cheerful plot.

Most of Agniya Barto's poems are written for children — preschoolers or elementary school students. The style is very light; the poems are easy to read and remember even for toddlers. The author, as it were, talks to the child in simple, everyday language, without lyrical digressions and descriptions — but in rhyme. And she talks to little readers as if the author were their peer.

The poem "The House Moved" is dedicated to the relocation of house No. 5/6 on Serafimovich Street in Moscow, which obstructed the construction of the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge in 1937. A distinctive feature of this relocation was the need to raise the building (weighing 7500 tons) by 1.87 m. Nevertheless, the relocation took place without evacuating the residents.
