The collection includes eight fairy tales by the brilliant folklorist Vladimir Dahl: "The Snow Maiden," "About the Mouse-Hole," "The Crane and the Heron," "The Crayfish Outsmarted the Fox," "The Fox-Bast-Shoe Maker," "The Fox and the Hare," "The Fox and the Bear," "The Fastidious One." These are essentially pedagogical works. They simultaneously entertain, educate, and instruct. All the fairy tales are extraordinarily good for expressive reading aloud. Engaging plots, vivid imagery and humor, a moderate didacticism, and finally, beautiful Russian language - these are their main merits. A multifaceted man with an unusual destiny and an amazing gift for storytelling, the Russian writer, ethnographer, lexicographer, and military physician Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl spent his entire life collecting vocabulary, proverbs, folk songs, and fairy tales. The fairy tales were magnificently illustrated by the wonderful animal artist Evgeny Mikhailovich Rachev. While preserving the natural appearance of the animals, he endowed them with human facial expressions, gestures, and clothing.
