Demons

Having already written "Notes from the House of the Dead," "Notes from Underground," "Crime and Punishment," "The Idiot," and other masterpieces, Dostoevsky still felt a keen sense of dissatisfaction and, by his own admission, was only just beginning to write his magnum opus. In 1871–1872, his sixth novel, with the provocative and symbolic title "Demons," was published. A gripping drama, a captivating plot, raging passions, and extraordinary, wild events "under the bell jar" of a provincial town—this is one of the greatest works of not only Russian but also world literature.
