Airport employees face one problem after another, from a delivery truck that has vanished without a trace to a terrible accident aboard one of the planes. On top of all this, the characters' personal problems and complex emotional dramas are exacerbated – this intricate web of plotlines unfolds over a single Friday evening, encapsulating the novel's action.

The novel "Airport" was adapted into a film in 1970, starring leading Hollywood actors – it received ten Academy Award nominations! Three sequels followed this adaptation.
