About the Book
We're increasingly dependent on various devices and gadgets. For example, the reader sees this text on their computer or even phone screen. It's easy to scroll down the page to view illustrations, zoom in or out with a swipe, and even "like" a page. Children don't need explanations about how to play a YouTube video or take a photo with an iPhone. We read e-books on the subway, listen to audiobooks in the car, and are already getting used to the special effects on iPads.
Perhaps we'll all soon forget what paper books are? Children will be taken to libraries, like museums, to see this wondrous wonder—thick and thin books, hardback or paperback, with static illustrations that make no sound. Surely there are already adults who have almost forgotten what it's like to flip through pages, catch the faint scent of printer's ink, and feel the textured elements on the cover.
This picture book, this joke book with a simple yet descriptive title, was created so that we all remember what a book is and what it's for. Its pages can't be scrolled, its characters swing swords of words, it doesn't send tweets, and it doesn't have a mouse. It's just a book. A witty and cute one. So that we don't forget what books are.
